HMO Compliant Locks
If a property is occupied by 3 or more unrelated people it is classed as a House in Multiple Occupancy.
Special rules apply to these kinds of properties. One of the rules is that there is easy exit from the property without the need for a key in the case of fire. This not only applies to the final exit door but also to an exit door from a unit of accommodation (each bedroom).
The Council are now insisting that this rule is enforced before renewing HMO licences. The Fire Officer is also insisting that the lock is insurance approved to BS 8621 for security and safety.
